Because International

Because International is all about practical compassion. We try to help kids living in extreme poverty with the small things that make a BIG difference. Our first project is called The Shoe That Grows – a shoe that can grow 5 sizes and last up to 5 years. We are excited to tackle more projects in the days ahead because we love “trying to make things better by making better things.

Calico Culture

Calico Culture’s mission is to help integrate foreigners into American and Colorado culture by providing support and connections within their community while improving their cultural awareness and English language skills.Walking Tree Travel is partnering with Calico to further our endeavors to promote global citizenship at the local level.

Campfire Creative

Campfire Creative is a team of skilled storytellers specializing in creating visuals from photo to film of the experiences that surround us. At Campfire Creative we focus on the little things that make a story unique and it’s not always just about the visuals we create, it is about the experience we have along the way. We create an atmosphere for personalities to thrive and creativity to flourish, because we are personally invested in what we do and have a voice about what we say. Our work is fueled by passion and driven by the relationships we encounter on this amazing journey.

First Descents

First Descents provides life-changing outdoor adventures for young adults (ages 18-39) impacted by cancer. First Descents is a recognized leader in outdoor experiential programming. Through outdoor adventures, skills development, and local adventure communities FD improves the long-term survivorship of young adults impacted by cancer. Our participants experience free outdoor adventure programs that empower them to climb, paddle, and surf beyond their diagnosis, reclaim their lives, and connect with others doing the same.

Fly My Group

Fly My Group specializes in securing and managing group airfare contracts through their teams' expertise of the dynamic airline industry. They have access to all the products on the market so we never miss out on the best fare and right itinerary for our groups.

Guatemala Housing Alliance

After numerous stints with other non-profits in Guatemala over the years we decided in 2010 to begin Guatemala Housing Alliance. Incorporated in Washington State we received our 501(c)(3) determination in 2011 with the intention of focusing our efforts in the area of Lake Atitlán where we felt housing needs often went unaddressed. In this region systemic poverty is often made catastrophic by occasional earthquakes and frequent tropical storms which take their toll on homes and lives in massive mudslides along the de-forested slopes of the caldera. Within Guatemala our organization operates as the Construyendo Alianzas (Building Alliances) because of the importance we place on integrating our mission with the work of other non-profits in the Lake Atitlán region.

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Young Scholars Program

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is a private, independent foundation dedicated to advancing the education of exceptionally promising students who have financial need. The Foundation supports exceptional students from elementary school to graduate school through scholarships, grants, direct service, and knowledge creation and dissemination.

The Opportunity Network

The Opportunity Network is a community-based organization that works with high school and college students from historically underrepresented communities in developing the skills, knowledge, and passions to achieve their college and career goals.

Organic World Language (OWL)

Organic World Language provides a space for positive collaboration to create active learning environments that foster student-engagement and empowerment.

Penpal Schools

Penpal Schools is an organization dedicated to promoting cross-cultural exchange around the world through a 21st-century reimagining of the “pen-pal” concept, connecting students of all ages in schools around the world through the internet.Walking Tree Travel is partnering with them to spread their message and values within our own community of participants and alumni.

Regular Visitors

Regular Visitors is a design, retail and social outreach project started by designers, photographers, musicians, and world travelers who all believe in the concept of the “global citizen”. Regular Visitors mission is to offer useful, well designed products for mindful travelers and gracious hosts around the world. Walking Tree Travel is partnering with Regular Visitors to …In partnership with Walking Tree Travel (www.walkingtree.org) a portion of our profits will be donated to the Regular Visitors Scholarship Fund which will finance social outreach trips to underprivileged high school students who want to see the world, seeking to understand other cultures and help where help is needed.

STA Travel

In 1979, two young students had just returned from their travels, slightly jetlagged but on the biggest high of their lives. Inspired by the planet, the people they had met and the places they had seen, they set out on a mission to bring affordable flights and worldly adventures to other students, young people and explorers. The result was STA Travel. Today STA has almost 2,000 people working in over 200 stores around the globe, helping over 2 million travelers a year start their adventure.

Step Up to Excellence

Step Up to Excellence is a three-year, school-based mentoring program that challenges students to reach ambitious goals. Highly motivated students from working, low-income families are selected through a competitive application process to be paired with educators in their schools. The educators serve as mentors for the students year-round from sophomore through senior year, helping them pursue challenging individual, academic, and communal goals in order to grow in confidence, character, and leadership toward excellence.

Sustainable Travel International

Since 2002, Sustainable Travel International has been charting a new course for travel and tourism — one that leads to a healthier environment, greater economic opportunity, social justice and the protection of natural and cultural resources. They develop strategic partnerships with destination managers and large businesses, focused on positively impacting travelers, communities, and local businesses, and preserving their natural and cultural heritage.

The Wandering Scholar

The Wandering Scholar makes international travel and learning opportunities accessible to low-income high school students. Our program is holistic in its approach, we recognize the multiple factors that impede participation in travel programs and specifically target each one.

The World Affairs Challenge

The World Affairs Challenge (WAC) is dedicated to developing tomorrow’s global leaders. With mentoring, education and competition, WAC ignites middle-school and high-school students’ passions about world affairs. WAC engages youth to solve some of the world’s most pressing problems. WAC students move from awareness to action while learning to think critically, collaborate, communicate and grow human capacity.
