10th anniversary

Our Mission is to inspire individuals to become global citizens by taking an active interest in the world around them. We achieve this goal by providing unforgettable travel programs filled with challenging and enriching adventures. Walking Tree stands for a more open, curious and compassionate approach to travel. We facilitate meaningful cross-cultural interactions that lead participants to recognize the similarities between people instead of focusing on the differences. Rather than a typical tour, our programs are designed for a proactive group of travelers who seek an authentic international experience and the opportunity to effect positive change at home and abroad.

Traveling Safe in Zika-affected Countries

With the media frenzy surrounding the Zika virus, it's understandable to have concerns about travel. Please take a moment to read about our position on travel to Zika-affected countries.

We at Walking Tree have been closely following the media coverage surrounding potential threats to travelers from Zika virus. Due to the near daily coverage, we wanted to take a moment to update all our travelers.

Due to the anticipated spread of Zika in the Americas, the CDC Advisory for some of our destination countries (Mexico, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Guatemala) has been placed at Level 2 ("Practice Enhanced Precautions"). These enhanced precautions are currently directed mainly towards pregnant women traveling to areas where infections have been reported, and concord with Walking Tree's standard advice on any of our programs where there is a chance of encountering mosquitoes. These are (in short): wear long sleeves/pants, and regularly apply mosquito repellent (available to students on all of our programs) when outdoors.

Given the current information from the scientific community and national/international health institutions, and the demographic of our travelers and Program Leaders, we do not feel there is sufficient cause to alter or cancel any of our programs.

In the event that the CDC raises the advisory level of any of our destination countries or destinations, we will then reassess our programs and itineraries and update our position on the matter accordingly. Should we go ahead with travel to any countries with reported Zika infections this summer, we will revisit and revamp our emergency preparedness protocols and precautions to address any new risks posed to our travelers.

It is routine during outbreaks such as the Zika virus for the media to meticulously explore and elaborate upon any and all potential threats to travelers, whether or not they have been confirmed or supported by the scientific community or health agencies. Please rest assured that while we are not jumping to any conclusions at this point, our number one priority is always the safety of our travelers and employees. Any decision to go ahead with travel to any of our destinations will be based an an analysis of our itineraries taken with a conservative interpretation of institutional advisories from the CDC, WHO, and US Department of State.

Truly customizable itineraries.

 Getting Started

Whether you teach language, science, photography, or history, we can tailor an itinerary to your needs. Once underway, we strive to make the planning process as easy and hassle-free as possible for our faculty chaperones. We do this by helping guide the recruitment process, providing promotional materials, and talking directly with interested families regarding their questions and concerns, as well as administrators concerned about liability. Then, during travel, your Walking Tree leader handles all logistical concerns including meals, transportation, accommodations, and group activities, leaving you and your travelers to simply enjoy the ride.
