Global Leadership Activities – Post-Program

Activity 1: Reflecting and Reacting

    How It Works

This reflection activity will encourage you to think back on how your perspective may have changed throughout your time abroad, and will help you understand how you have grown. This is also a great way to start processing the many emotions that occur after an experience abroad.

    How You Do It

  • Read the following writing prompts below and take a few minutes to respond to each one:
    • I know that I have changed as a result of my experience because…
    • The things about my host country that I miss now are…
    • I now value _____more than I did before my time abroad.
    • My friends understand ______ about my experience, but what they don’t understand is…
    • Now that I am home, I worry most about…
    • One new thing I learned about myself is…
    • Something I experienced on my trip that I would not have experienced at home is…
    • I wish that I could explain to my family and friends that…
    • I now feel ______ about my place in today’s global community because…

Take Away Points

  •  Returning home after an experience abroad can be a mix of emotions. It can be difficult to explain all that you’ve seen, done and felt during your time abroad, just as it can be challenging for your family and friends understand these experiences.
  • Reflecting on your experiences, both on your own and with others, can help you recognize the ways you’ve grown and changed. This will also help you integrate your new perspectives and experiences into your life back home.
