Whether you’re strolling the cobblestone streets of Cusco, watching the sun rise from the splendor of Machu Picchu or working on a meaningful service project in a small community in and mountains of the Sacred Valley, Peru is sure to leave you wanting more.

Service Adventures can combine rural homestays, adventure travel, and meaningful service projects which are guided by our community partners. Living in these small communities provides the opportunity to engage the language and culture from a uniquely advantageous position.

The Itinerary
We do everything possible to run safe, engaging, and immersive programs for our travelers and given the unpredictable nature of international travel we must remain flexible in our planning. Changes to a schedule are uncommon but, we reserve the right to adjust programming in the best interest of the group.

| May 22 | CA-Peru | Today the group will travel from the USA to Lima, Peru. After arrival, the group will settle into their hotel and rest ahead of our connecting flight the following morning. | Either airplane or Lima |
| May 23 | Lima | We will start our day with our orientation meeting to help us prepare for the days ahead. We will then make our way to the historic center to explore the plaza mayor and the catacombs underneath the convent of San Francisco. Later on, we will explore the Miraflores neighborhood, including the Parque Kennedy, and dine on some of Lima's famously delicious delicacies. | Hotel |
| May 24 | Lima and Cusco | Today we will leave Lima and travel to Cusco, the ancient capital of the Quechua empire. at our hotel in the beautiful San Blas neighborhood to discuss the upcoming trip in detail. Later, we will take a guided walking tour of the historic center and marvel at how Quechua, Spanish and modern influences have molded current day Cusco. | Hotel |
| May 25 | Cusco | Our day will begin with an adventurous photographic scavenger hunt in the cobblestone streets around the central plaza of Cusco. Next, we will practice our moves in a Latin dance class before touring the famous Quechua ruins of Saqsayhuaman. In the evening, we will enjoy local and international food and the comforts of our quaint hotel. | Hotel |
| May 26 | Cusco - Ollantaytambo | The adventures continue as we set out for Chinchero, a small town just above the Sacred Valley, where we will enjoy a weaving demonstration from the women famous for these local textiles. We will then make our way to Salineras, where thousands of salt pools cascade down the mountains, and Moray, an ancient Quechua agricultural laboratory. From there we will descend the Sacred Valley in bikes (or vans) and return to our host community. | Hotel |
| May 27 | Ollantaytambo - Pisac | Today we will head out to the town of Pisac, home to the largest regional market. We will use our Spanish language skills to negotiate good prices on world class crafts in this colorful market! In the evening we will return to Ollantaytambo to have our homestay orientation to prepare to meet our host families tomorrow. | Hotel |
| May 28 | Ollantaytambo | Today we will meet our host families! Our service days will be spent in our homestay community, which represent the heart and soul of our program. We will volunteer on meaningful service project(s) during the day while also enjoying sufficient free time to interact with our host families and fellow travelers, practice our language skills and explore the surrounding area. | Homestay |

| May 30 | Ollantaytambo | Today we will work on our service project(s) and spend time with our host families. Evening activities will vary. In the evening we will say goodbye to our host families in our farewell party. | Homestay |
| May 31 | Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes | Today we will have some free time with our host families and after saying good bye to our host community, we will make our way to the train station to take the beautiful two-hour ride to Aguas Calientes, the base town of Machu Picchu. In the evening we will explore this town and have an early dinner to prepare for our visit to Machu Picchu. | Hotel |
| June 1 | Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Ollantaytambo | We will then either hike or bus to the famous ruins. With our local guide, we will learn about the history and significance of this citadel set high in the Andes, and take time to reflect on our journey thus far. We will head back to Ollantaytambo this evening to prepare for our travel day tomorrow. | Hotel |
| June 2 | Ollantaytambo - Cusco - Lima | This morning we will say goodbye to our host families and begin our journey back to the USA. We will take an afternoon flight from Cusco to Lima. If time permits, we will leave the airport to explore the capital's historic center, including the plaza mayor and the catacombs under the convent of San Francisco, before catching our overnight flight from Lima to the USA. | Airplane |
Accommodations
In order to provide a safe and memorable experience, we follow strict guidelines when choosing program accommodations. Walking Tree partners with hotels and guest houses which are centrally located, clean and safe. We vet and inspect the accommodations to ensure they uphold the ethos of our programs, are great values for our travelers and nice places to rest after enriching days of travel.
Pension Alemana
Situated in the hills of the San Blas neighborhood, Pension Alemana is a beautiful bed and breakfast overlooking the historic center of Cusco. Representative of the city’s history and culture, this hotel blends Quechua and Spanish colonial styles to provide a stunning setting to relax at 11,000 feet. Free Wi-Fi access throughout the building keeps everyone feeling connected. Students will be grouped in their rooms according to gender and availability.
Hostal El Patio
This beautiful bed and breakfast provides the perfect escape in the heart of Lima’s trendy, coastal neighborhood of Miraflores. Flowery terraces and the friendly staff give personality and charm to this lush, green oasis in the middle of the city. Free Wi-Fi access throughout the building keeps everyone feeling connected. Students will be grouped in their rooms according to gender and availability.
Hotel Sol Ollantay
Hotel Sol offers brand new rooms in the historic Quechua village of Ollantaytambo. Conveniently located by the main plaza and only a short walk from the train station, the cozy, modern accommodations and friendly staff make Hotel Sol one of the best options in town. Free Wi-Fi access throughout the building keeps everyone feeling connected. Students will be grouped in their rooms according to gender and availability.

In order to give our travelers the best possible price, we break out airfare from the Program Tuition. We will still handle all booking and ticketing via our flight partner who has access to special fares not available to the general public. Once confirmed, you will be invoiced for the flight roughly 75 days prior to travel.
Program Tuition Excludes: Travel insurance, baggage fees, passport/visa fees, laundry, souvenirs, and activities not listed on itinerary.
