Today we woke up to the beautiful view of our room and the bright, beaming sun. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast in the hotel restaurant, and got on a quick bus ride to the La Fortuna waterfall.
We arrived at the waterfall, and stopped at a look out to see the beautiful views of the forest. In the background we can see the waterfall. We then went down a long staircase to the waterfall and swimming area. The water was so cold, but in a good way. It was very refreshing and the scenery was unreal. We loved the waterfall so much, it’s definitely been our favorite part of the trip so far. After we ate lunch we went on the chocolate tour.
At the tour we learned about the process of real chocolate being made. We danced and had a great time with Chapo Guapo. We tried cacao beans in many forms, drank the drink of the gods, and enjoyed authentic chocolate sauce. Our tour guide was so funny we loved him.
We then went souvenir shopping and we had so much fun as a group. We all got gifts for our friends and family at home and enjoyed the locals. We then headed to our early dinner before settling at the hotel for the night.
Today was overall a great day and everything we did was so much fun.

Finally after that we settled down in the hotel along with visiting the hot springs and pool. This was supported by a pizza dinner.
Blog 1: Rafting and fútbol!
Written by Evie, Abby, Alia, Sophia, Leela, Charlotte, Mackenzie, and Ella
After a bright and early morning and a 2 hour bus ride, we made it to white water rafting! We had a blast! There was so much wildlife and the most beautiful vegetation. We saw monkeys and so many birds! We went down super fun class three rapids with the most amazing river guides. After our first hour on the water we stopped for a snack and swimming break. The guides showed us a spot to jump off a small cliff into the river. It was really cool! After swimming we were given some pineapple and watermelon as a refreshing treat. They were both incredibly sweet and fresh! Then we were back on the river for another hour of rafting. We were all starving once we took our boats out of the river, so we stopped at a local restaurant for lunch. And of course we had a Costa Rican specialty…rice and beans!! Along with the rice and beans we had a choice of vegetables, chicken, fish, or beef and some yummy potatoes and a little salad.
In the afternoon, we were able to experience one of the most popular sports in Costa Rica. We were able to play a pick-up game of fútbol with a group of local teenagers for about an hour and a half. While a few of us do play soccer, most people do not so that was a new experience on its own. We split up teams so that they would include people from our trip as well as the locals that we were playing with. These teams gave us the opportunity to play with amazing soccer players our age and speak some Spanish to our new teammates! Even though we had only just met, everyone was so welcoming and encouraging. The game was so much fun and gave everyone the opportunity to interact with one another. We were able to be exposed to a new culture in a fun, immersive, and engaging way making the entire experience amazing. While this is just the beginning of our trip, it is a memory that will stick with us for the rest of our lives.
To end the day we learned all about bats and the research being conducted on them in Costa Rica. We learned about all of the common misconceptions and fun facts about the interesting creatures! Then we got a chance to see the bats up close and watch their releases! Today was an awesome first day exploring a beautiful country!!
