Today we went to a very cool place, an elephant sanctuary! We started off the day with yummy breakfast and then headed on the buses. After a long bumpy drive, we arrived and took a quick walk up to see the elephants. First we fed the elephants sugarcane and took many pictures with them. After we were done, we set off on a hike into the jungle. We weren’t alone though, because the elephants came with us! We even saw an elephant break a tree down! While on our hike, we stopped to admire everything around us to appreciate how lucky we are to be here. We learned how they take care of the elephants to ensure their safety around other people and how important they are. We took even more pictures with the elephants, hugging them and petting them. After a few more minutes of walking, our guild said he had something special! Waiting around, he pulled out a giant spider!
After our amazing lunch with different types of curry and fruit, we made the vitamin balls for the elephant. These were made of all natural plants such as bananas, sea salt, sugar cane, and turmeric. We got to grind all of the plants into a paste and then shape them into a ball. Then we each got to feed the elephants with the balls.
Then, we got to bathe the elephant and give them a mud bath with the mud from the little lake. After we all washed off in a stream/reservoir with the elephant trailed right behind us. Some of us got to sit on the elephants and wash them off with the water. They even spout water out of their trunks!
After, we rinsed off and went on a rocky ride back to the hotel where we got to shower to get ready for a night market.
