Today was finally the day for the party, after working long and hard in the school and putting in so much effort it was finally our time to celebrate the progress and work we did. The day started with breakfast at seven and we quickly moseyed over to the school where we started our couple hours of service work before the party. For our service work we split into two groups and continued our work on the school and the soccer field. I worked first on the field cutting down trees and dragging them across the field. After a couple of hours we went back to the school to help them dig the holes for their tires. After digging we finished setting up their swings, it was hot and we worked longer than expected but it was great to see the kids so happy to try out their new swings and tires. We walked back to the cafeteria and were not able to shower before lunch( we where all a bit stinky). We then got all nice and clean and headed to Roy and Graciela’s to get a sketchy ride up the hill. When we got to the party we played FUTBOL with some for the kids that got there early. The party was a lot of fun and we played FUTBOL outside and there where games going on inside. It was a lot of fun and it was very cool socializing with the locals in a non work environment. We all walked home after a long day of partying and working.

Today we arrived in a new area called “La Florida,” it is very beautiful and calm. The car ride was long and hard, we had a great time listening to music with friends. The we spent a long time in the car but went to lunch in a cool restaurant that had an airplane next to it. We then got to La Florida and made some empanadas and swam. I can hear all of the animals from my cabin. I have been loving all of the new foods we tried. Words can not describe how exited I am to keep exploring!

April 1st

Today we woke up at 6ish and got ready for breakfast which was at 7. We had pancakes and delicious fruit. After that we walked to the school and split into groups to do work. One group cleaned the floor of a nearby community room while the other group cut down trees and trimmed bushes at the school. Then we switched and continued cleaning up the trees around the school and a nearby soccer field. Next we had lunch around noon which was pasta, chickpea salad and burritos. After that we had a debrief about the work while eating ice cream a parent at the school had brought. We had two options for the rest of the afternoon: chill back at the cabins or play soccer at the field. Piper, Sabine, Jack and I went to play soccer at the field with a little boy from the school named Santiago. The rest went back to the cabins. Then we all went to Roy and Gracielas house to eat empanadas, drink amazing coffee and swim in their pool. We headed back to the cabins after that and chilled until 6 when some of us went to the common areas to play card games. Then at 7 everyone came and we had dinner and a debrief, followed by bedtime.

Exploring Nauyaca waterfall

Written by Amelia Stratton
Today everyone took a beautiful hike to a waterfall. At the waterfall we all jumped into the refreshing water. Once we arrived back to camp pura vida, we were given a tour of the camp. Everyone had a great time exploring the camp more, and we had a opportunity to play in the pool. Overall great day.

Today
we ate breakfast (pancakes, cereal or granola with fruit) at 8:30 and from there we got our lunches (tuna or peanut butter sandwiches) and headed for the day’s activities. Today we were in the bus for a little bit going to the place where we started our hike. Once we got there, we were in a truck/bus to the trail head. Our hike was pretty short-and very downhill- to the waterfall Nauyaca where we stayed and swam for a while as well as ate our delicious lunches. Once finished, we hiked back to the trail head where we retraced our steps, first going on the truck/bus then in the car, this time to a different waterfall, and to get some ice cream, rather than going straight back to where we’re staying in La Florida. This waterfall was a bit dry, but it was still beautiful.
After that we headed back to La Florida and got a tour of La Finca Sueño de Vida and saw some pigs, chickens and a load of beautiful plants and trees. We then drank some coffee from the beans grown here in this farm and had some little biscuits. We had free time until dinner at 6:30 of tacos/fajitas with chicken, beans, rice, cheese and guacamole as well as tortilla chips and salad. Once dinner was finished, we had a meeting about what we were going to be doing tomorrow as well as played the human knot, which is much harder than it looks, and prepared for everything we needed.

Arriving at la Florida

Written by Emma Klemt

Today
we spent a lot of time in the car, but made some fun stops along the way! It took a bit of time to get ready to leave, but we left around 8:30. We stopped at a bridge to see crocodiles, and drink coconut water straight from a coconut! We also stopped to eat a restaurant that was right next to a plane turned into a hotel!
After finally arriving at the village, we met our hosts, who gave us coffee and taught us how to make empanadas. We had a bit of downtime before dinner, and the chance to swim in a pool. After dinner, we had a little while longer to ourselves, before lights out at 10!
