Sample Program

Walking Tree Travel specializes in customized group travel. The itinerary below is from a recent program and is provided here as an example of just one of many experiences that are possible in this destination.

Overnight flight from USA to Athens, Greece.

Today the group will arrive in Athens, Greece, and transfer to our centrally located hotel and get checked-in before taking to the streets on walking tour of the hip Plaka neighborhood. Sit down altogether for a delicious welcome dinner in the evening.

Let’s go island hopping! Today we will board a cruise and sail off to Mykonos Island arriving in the early evening. The group will have 5 hours to explore the dreamy iconic Greek island which is known as the “island of the winds” with its distinctive windmills. We will explore the island together with out guide or in small group on a walk through the atmospheric Old Town with its immaculate whitewashed houses, winding alleys, lovely little churches and delightful restaurants. Evening departure to Turkey.

Today we will explore Kusadasi and Patmos. We will begin our visit with a bus tour in Kusadasi which will take us on a journey to discover the ancient Ephesus, built 3,000 years ago. The group will also have the chance to discover the Bazar of Kusadasi before cruising over to the hourglass-shaped island of Patmos, known among locals as the “Holy Island” named after St John the Apostle. We will spend the afternoon and evening here and take up an optional excursion or continue exploring in small groups.

If Kusadasi gave us just a glimpse of the Ancient World, then this destination leaves it to our imagination. The Colossus of Rhodes once bestrode the harbor but he is long gone. So you can take in the lovely Old Town, a maze of atmospheric cobbled streets that will transport you back to the Byzantine Empire and beyond. Follow in the footsteps of heroes as you walk along the Knight's Street in the heart of historical Rhodes. We will depart in the early evening as you sail towards Heraklion, Crete.

Today we will sail into Heraklion in the morning, marvel at the Koules Fortress that guards the ancient capital of Crete. We will enjoy some free time in Heraklion or join on an optional excursion to Knossos, the center of Minoan civilization which has been called Europe's oldest city. We will be back onboard of our cruise around lunch time for your next island hop to Santorini. Here you’ll be greeted by striking cliffs which are vertically dotted with traditional white Greek houses and blue domed churches. Participants will have the opportunity to go on an excursion to Oia for an epic sunset.

Today we will disembark our cruise in the early morning. Once in the mainland, we will begin our day exploring the iconic Poseidon Temple on Sounion Cape before continuing traveling towards Athens. Once in Athens, we will have dinner along the coast before heading back to the hotel.

The group will spend the morning on a guided sightseeing tour of Athens led by an expert local guide. The group will visit and learn about the Acropolis, experience Olympic Stadium and much more. We will finish our day having dinner in the Plaka neighborhood of Athens before heading back to our hotel.

We will start our day with a visit to the Acropolis Archeological Museum. In the afternoon the group will have time to explore old town, have a snack or why not visit other museums.

Today we will have a full day excursion to Delphi Archeological park with a local expert guide at the site. The group will also visit the Delphi Museum. On your return to Athens in the afternoon we make an additional stop at Hosios Loukas Holy Monastery, a byzantine style monastery dating back to 11th century. We will arrive in Athens by dinner time.

After breakfast, we will head on an excursion to Epidaurus where we will be able to visit the amphitheater. On your way we will pass by the Corinth Canal and many other interesting sites on the along our walk. In the evening, gather together for a delicious Farewell Dinner in the Old Town and reminisce and reflect over everything you’ve seen and done.

Today the group will head to the airport to catch out international flight.
