We do everything possible to abide by itineraries as originally planned, but decades of experience teachers that we must flexible in our planning. Changes to a trip’s schedule are uncommon, but Walking Tree reserves the right to make adjustments to programming in the best interest of the group.

February 16 | Atlanta - Lima | Today the group will travel from the USA to Lima, Peru. After arrival, we'll settle into our hotel and rest, before venturing out to explore the neighborhood. We'll have dinner and an orientation meeting this evening. | Hotel Lima |
February 17 | Lima - Cusco | This morning we depart Lima and fly to Cusco, the ancient capital of the Incan empire. We land and transfer to a centrally-located hotel before beginning our adventure in earnest. We'll wander the cobblestone streets with a local guide as we learn more about the fascinating history of this city and marvel at how Incan, Spanish and modern influences mold current day Cusco. | Hotel Cusco |
February 18 | Cusco | This morning we begin our Spanish classes, during which we'll work with native speakers to hone our skills and learn useful approaches that will help us make the most of our experience in Peru. In the afternoon, we climb the narrow streets to the famous Quechua ruins of Saqsayhuaman. On our way back down, we check out a farm where we can feed, pet and learn about lamas, alpacas, and vicuñas, and about their vital role in the expansion and success of the Incan empire. In the evening, we will enjoy a delicious dinner and the comforts of our hotel. | Hotel Cusco |
February 19 | Cusco | Today we continue our Spanish lessons. After lunch, we throw caution to the wind and let loose during a dance class when we'll learn the basic steps to salsa, merengue and cumbia! Later we'll have some time to explore Cusco's markets in small groups. After regrouping, we will head to dinner high above town for a spectacular view of the valley. | Hotel Cusco |
February 20 | Cusco - Ollantaytambo | Today, we will have our last Spanish lesson and celebrate with our teachers. After lunch, we depart Cusco and drive a couple hours to Ollantaytambo, a small village on the floor of the valley. The drive is beautiful, and if schedules align, we'll be able to stop a sprawling local market along the way. After checking into our hotel, we will have time to explore a small but significant archeological site above town before having dinner and resting for a big day exploring the Sacred Valley tomorrow. | Hotel Ollantaytambo |
February 21 | Ollantaytambo | Today begins with breakfast and then a bus ride to Chinchero, a community perched on mountainside. Here, we'll meet a group of local women who have started a weaving co-op to support their families. They'll give us a demonstration and talk more about locally-produced textiles, some of the finest in Peru. We continue to Salineras, where thousands of salt pools cascade down the mountains, and finally Moray, a remarkable Quechua agricultural laboratory. From here we descend to the valley floor on bikes (or vans, if anyone prefers) and arrive to Ollantaytambo, where we will spend the night and prepare for our visit to Machu Picchu the following day. | Hotel Ollantaytambo |
February 22 | Ollantaytambo - Machu Picchu - Cusco | Today is the day! We wake up early and catch a train leaving Ollataytambo and headed to Aguas Calientes, a town at the base of Machu Picchu. Keep your camera handy because the ride is nothing short of spectacular! From Aguas, we board a bus with our professional guide who will lead us through an unforgettable day. As we wander the complex, we'll learn about the history of this mountain citadel and the mysteries that remain, and take time to reflect on our journey thus far. After a full day, we board a train back to Cusco where we will have dinner and spend the night. | Hotel Cusco |
February 23 | Cusco - Lima | This morning we fly back Lima. Upon arrival, we will transfer to our hotel in the heart of the Miraflores neighborhood where we will have the chance to rest after a couple of long and busy days. In the early afternoon, we'll venture out to see more of this artsy and cosmopolitan part of the city, and sample famous Peruvian ceviche! | Hotel Cusco |
February 24 | Lima | On our last day in Peru, we make our way to the historic center to visit the Plaza Mayor and its surroundings, including a descent into the ancient catacombs that lie silently underneath the convent of San Francisco and. After a full day of exploring, we head back to our hotel to freshen up before heading out for a final and celebratory dinner. Then back to the hotel to rest before flying home tomorrow. | Hotel Lima |

Accommodations
In order to provide a safe and memorable experience, we follow strict guidelines when choosing group accommodations. Walking Tree partners with hotels and guest houses which are centrally located, locally operated, clean and safe. We inspect each partner hotel to ensure they meet these standards.
Hostal El Patio
This beautiful bed and breakfast provides the perfect escape in the heart of Lima’s trendy, coastal neighborhood of Miraflores. Flowery terraces and the friendly staff give personality and charm to this lush, green oasis in the middle of the city. Free Wi-Fi access throughout the building keeps everyone feeling connected. Pension Alemana
Situated in the hills of the San Blas neighborhood, Pension Alemana is a beautiful bed and breakfast overlooking the historic center of Cusco. Representative of the city’s history and culture, this hotel blends Quechua and Spanish colonial styles to provide a stunning setting to relax at 11,000 feet. Free Wi-Fi access throughout the building keeps everyone feeling connected. Students will be grouped in their rooms according to gender and availability.
Hatun Inti
Hatun Inti is a modern, clean, and locally owned and operated hotel in the town of Aguas Calientes. The friendly staff, complimentary teas, delicious food, and modern amenities combine to make this hotel the perfect place to relax for travelers visiting Machu Picchu. In order to give our travelers the best possible price, we break out airfare from the Program Tuition. We will still handle all booking and ticketing via our flight partner who has access to special fares not available to the general public. Once confirmed, you will be invoiced for the flight roughly 75 days prior to travel.
