Thailand

There is a reason that Thailand is one of the most popular travel destinations in all of Asia. Its' impressive geography spans densely forested mountains and thick tropical jungles to pristine white sand beaches and miles of rolling rice paddies. These natural wonders are balanced with shining examples of modernity and progress, but even a massive city like Bangkok is infused with longstanding cultural traditions which refuse to disappear in the face of the 21st century onslaught.  Come discover for yourself what makes this country so unique and experience first-hand an allure unlike any other.

We recognize the extraordinary role that meaningful international travel can play in shaping the lives of young people, and strive to create itineraries which push travelers to see themselves and the places they visit in a new and exciting light.

Fly from the USA to Bangkok, Thailand

Sawaddee ka! Welcome to Bangkok, Thailand! Program leaders will pick up the group at the airport. The group will check in the guesthouse for a meal and rest after the long day of travel.

Today we will hold an orientation meeting and cultural introduction in the morning. After enjoying Thai street food for lunch, we will spend our afternoon exploring the busy and bustling capital city with a longtail boat ride through the small canals of Chao Phraya River , and visiting the famous religious temples Wat Pho and Wat Arun.

Today we will head to Kanchanaburi Province. We partner with the organization Bring the Elephant Home, and learn about wild elephant conservation, the farmer/elephant conflict in the area, what action is being done to help, and how we can contribute! We will visit a local school and participate in tree planting event with community members and local students.

After eating a traditional Thai breakfast, we will be working together with the community members and students to build a check dam in the wildlife sanctuary. In the afternoon, we will float along the river, take a short hike in the forest, and visit OurLand, a privately own nature reserve.

Today we will work in the tree nursery that helps sustain and provide a larger habitat for the wild elephants. We will participate in a demo of the beehive fences and help building beehive fences near the tree nursery. In the late afternoon, we will head to Sai Yok National Park, where we will spend the night camped on a houseboat, swimming in the river and sleeping underneath the stars.

After an early morning boat cruise, we will make our way to an elephant sanctuary close by. We will meet the elephant herd, feed them delicious treats, and bathe with them in the river.

Today we'll spend time walking with our new friends in the forest, preparing their food, taking care of them, and helping with an ongoing reforestation project.

Today, we'll wake up bright and early and head to Kui Buri National Park. Upon arrival, we will tour the park and have our first opportunity to see elephants in the wild!

After an early morning safari tour, we will begin our service project, working alongside park rangers on a handful of ongoing initiatives. In the late afternoon, we will tour the surrounding farm plantations and relax at our guesthouse.

After a leisurely morning, we will start the drive back to Bangkok. We'll have time in the evening for last minute shopping and delicious street food!

Say your goodbyes to Thailand, we're off to the USA!

Global Leadership Activities

Walking Tree Travel has developed tools that will help our travelers mature as global leaders before, during, and after their travel program. These simple, engaging activities are meant to spark discussion, frame the group’s experience, and prepare participants to travel ethically and effectively on our programs now and on their own into the future. Our activities also encourage students to take initiative as leaders in their local communities to make a difference at an immediate level, helping them to understand the impact they can have when they combine cultural understanding with personal and social responsibility.
